Triggers of the
crisis
It is an event
that is intensive just to the extent of being able to trigger off a process that
is in some cases ready in some individuals.
The most
frequent triggers include:
-
spontaneous emergence of endogenous
symptoms;
-
danger to life (serious illness,
accidents, operations…);
-
an extreme physical stress, sleep
deprivation;
-
perinatal events (birth, spontaneous
miscarriage, abortion);
-
powerful sexual experiences;
-
strong emotional experiences
(bereavement, traumatization…);
-
a series of life failures;
-
intensive meditation practices or
other spiritual techniques;
-
such a perusal of psychedelic agents
that doesn´t respect a good “set and setting”, i.e. a set of factors
including an adequate preparation and expectation on the side of the
individual, and preparation of a safe setting;
-
a sudden loss of the usual structure
and impossibility to replace it with something else in cases where a firm
structure of life and routine is a protection against incursion of chaos;
-
a combination of any of these
factors.
